Followers Transitioning Through Leaders – Philip Codington

6-28-20 Main Sermon
1 and 2 Samuel
1 Samuel 18:5-9 – Don’t compare. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Our models on earth are flawed.
Matthew 5:18 – Compare yourself to Jesus Christ. As a model, we fall short but God is committed to getting us there
1 Samuel 16:1, 6 & 7 – Focus not on the outward appearance but on the heart.
Philemon 3:7&8 – A resume is nothing compared to knowing Christ. How well does the leader know Christ? Ask for God’s guidance to see the Fruits of the Spirit. Looking for God’s heart in our leaders.
2 Samuel 15:13&14, 16:5-14
Psalm 62 – Heartache of being a leader
Galatians 6:2 – Bear one another’s burdens
2 Samuel 7:3 – Support your leaders by not chasing success
Our church model should be an obedient church that follows God’s voice.
2 Samuel 23:8-39 – A strong leader needs strong counselors and advisors who are seeking the Lord too.
1 Samuel 15:24 – Do in the Lord’s timing. Biggest problem with Western churches – in a hurry.
2 Samuel 7:2, 12 & 13
New leadership can be successful in new ways – David and Solomon
Ephesians 4:2-6
