The Role of Officers – Herb Codington

2020-7-5 Main Sermon
Titus 1:1-4, 1 and 2 Timothy
The role of officers and the relationship between church and state
Paul passing on the baton to Titus.
Struggles with hypocrisy. Church is God’s service dept., not His showroom. Paul to his fellow workers is setting up a “service dept.” on Crete.
Who are you and why are you here in God’s economy of things?
Not Paul’s idea to be an apostle of Jesus Christ. He was called by Christ to be a proclaimer of the truth.
The best leaders are themselves servants. Our lives are a submission to God’s will. Paul – a servant of God.
Why does God choose us?
1 – to model community in harmony, unity and fellowship (a reflection of the Kingdom of God) Hebrews 10:25
2 – to show His sovereign power (the Exodus & Wilderness experience)
3 – to demonstrate and to be an exhibit to His incredible grace
4 – to show what it means to belong to Him (to be a follower)
The Elect are marked by faith, knowledge and godliness
Greek meaning of godliness – to tremble before God
